Jon's pop-up portfolio

Hello! I noticed a job description at GitLab where I think I can make a lot of impact, so I made this quick pop-up portfolio as an introduction.

A love of dev tools

I'm a dev tools enthusiast

I am Replay.io's founding designer, where I built a time-travelling debugger and now I'm building a root cause analysis tool for eliminating flaky tests. My favourite design challenges are ones that help professionals do their best work. Especially devs.

A systems thinker

Twitter hired me to invent an app store. Microsoft asked me to redesign Word, Excel, and Powerpoint so one design language could work from mobile to desktop and appear "designed by one hand." My superpower is understanding complex things, simplifying them, then inspiring multiple teams towards one goal.

How we shipped Office Mobile ->

Diplomatic evangelist

And a near-future strategist

I first started tinkering with AI models in 2015, when I designed the front end for "Cortex," Twitter's internal AI training tool. I haven't stopped since. (Ask me about this image!)

I've led strategy teams, run a publication called Near Future Field Notes, and my hair is on fire about AI and its implications and opportunities for UX across the industry, and especially for GitLab.

Let's chat!

This pop-up portfolio gives a glimpse into my body of work, and the links provide more insight into how I incorporate research, communication, and iteration into making a great product.

There's a lot more to discuss, and I'm really enthusiastic about this role. I'd love to chat more!
